Fitness vs. Diet
November 24, 2004
During the holiday season, dieting and working out may both seem impossible. If you had to make a choice, which would you pick? Although they are both important, a recent article by the American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR), states that finding time to work out may be even more important than always sticking to your diet.
Several new studies cited by AICR state that it is actually better to be fit. A study of 900 middle aged women showed that unfit people who were not obese had even greater health problems than their obese, but fit counterparts. How can you move out of the "high risk" category? Moderately exercising five days a week for one half hour will elevate you out of the high risk category. According to the AICR and the Institute of Medicine, taking your fitness one step further is better. They recommend aiming for at least an hour a day of moderate exercise and some weekly vigorous activity. For more information on staying fit and eating right, see Healthy Living.
